Mountains of Costa Dorada, Alcover

Guided tour - Alcover - Mari Carmen Granados
1999

The village of Alcover belongs to Alt Camp region and is located at the foot of Prades Mountains. This region is well known for being the cradle of calçot, a traditional dish. With a population of 5,000 inhabitants, its old town offers a route to discover its important historical and architectural heritage:

The old Romanesque Church, remains of towers, portals and walls are some examples from the medieval legacy. The 16th century was particularly splendid for the people of Alcover: Examples of the Renaissance buildings are Abadia House, Cosme House or Batistó House. Also the new Church stands out from the baroque period.

At the end of the tour, we will visit Alcover Municipal Museum, where we will see a surprising exhibition of paleontology about exceptional fossils discovered in the area.

In the same museum we will immerse ourselves in the bourgeois everyday life of the early 20th century with the visit of Batistó House, a manor house that has been museographed with the latest technologies, to show us different areas of bourgeois everyday life: technological advances, the role of women, religiosity, hygiene, etc.

To complete the excursion we will have the opportunity to visit the artisan brewery La Rosita, where we will be offered a tasting.
